Back to Lyon and then on to Vienne

The second part of the trip

A's report of her day on board

After lunch, I went back to the bow to take photos of the trip back down the river that I missed on the way up. It was very hot by this time even in the shade. I watched as they left the pier - the forward line was way out of reach of the crewman, and he had to flip it off of the bollard.

I wondered what would happen if he didn't get the line off in time.

Ann came out and sat with me and I took more photos. I was aiming to get the parts of the river I had missed on the way up

But before we got back to the dock in Lyon it was too hot to be out there anymore, so I came in.

We didn't realize that dinner tonight was put back from 7:00 to 7:30 so we got ready and went down at about 7:20. The elevator on this ship drops me off INSIDE the restaurant, so A was outside and I was inside before the restaurant opened. One of the waiters asked me why I was hiding.

We were underway already, so I went in and sat at a table for four next to the window on the shady side. I took photos from inside the restaurant as we sped down to Vienne. I took a short video but I have yet to figure out how to put it in here.

Some people who were on the city walk with A came and sat with us. Laurie and Bruce. Bruce is very tall and is an accountant.

When we got back to our room, A was having trouble with the computer mouse which said it was discharged and neither it nor the remote would work. The night concierge guy came and he tried to boot up the computer but it took him a long time. The bow camera still does not work. I have asked about it multiple times, but it apparently is not important enough for them to fix it. This is a significant disappointment for me as the bow camera (when it works) is great for seeing when we are coming into a lock or for giving notice of other important viewpoints.

Too bad about the bow camera not working. I vaguely remember that there used to be front cameras on some of the high-speed trains, but I forget if that was in France or Germany. Haven't seen them for quite a while, in any case.

I use the bow cameras a lot and I was upset not to have this one working, but I was apparently the only one who cared. Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. If you have any insight or information about some of the more idiosyncratic buildings, I'd like to know.
